One lakh seats in English medium

There are over one lakh seats available in English medium schools for RTE admission process. Now the new admission process for RTE 24 percent reserved seats will start from Friday. For that students have to register online. Parents who have already registered their children for RTE admission will also have to register again, said Sharad Gosavi, Director of Primary Education Department.

What was the change?

The RTE admission portal provides district wise information about the schools eligible for RTE admission and the seats available for admission. State Government has issued new order dated 9 February 2024 for RTE admission. Accordingly, the school education department made a significant change this year. According to this change, students would miss admission in private schools.

If there is an aided school, government school, local self government school within one kilometer from the residence of the student, admission will be given in the same school. Admission will not be given in private schools. The parents had challenged this change in the High Court. The court stayed the change made by the government. Due to the new rules of the government, the common children had to wait for English medium private schools. This would have led to the classification of English medium private schools for rich children and government schools for poor children. But the High Court has canceled this decision of the government.
